Integral yoga is very much a philosophy rather than a style of yoga. The aim is to go beyond the mind and body to reach a higher level of consciousness. Bu doing this the mind and body are also transformed. The philosophy of integral yoga was detailed by a Bengali philosopher in the early 20th century and has been picked up by a number of people since then. There are a number of steps you must follow to practice integral yoga and these are:
- Aspire to reach divine presences
- Reject self-centred desires
- Surrender to the divine presence completely
This form of yoga does not aim to have the same goals of other forms of yoga. The idea is not to increase flexibility or strength in the body. The aim is to transcend to another level and understand the world and spirit. For that reason this form of yoga may not be for everyone however it can still have some significant benefits and people may find life much easier to handle through the practise of integral yoga.
