Description

Alexander Technique is more of a teaching practise rather than a therapy but many people can get significant benefits from it. It is common for Alexander Technique to be practised between a student and a teacher on a one to one basis in order to get the maximum benefit. Alexander Technique teachers help to adjust the client's posture to recognise the difference between current habits and what it feels like to use muscles with minimum effort and in a relaxed, fluid way. The Technique teaches how to become more aware of your own posture, balance and movement in everyday life.

Alexander Technique was developed around the turn of the century by Frederick Matthias Alexander. He found that he lost his voice for no medical reason and spent 8 years training his body to correct the situation. This technique was then developed to use with other people. The process of Alexander technique normally involves the practitioner teaching the patient how to alter their bodies and muscular tension in order to gain the correct alignment. This technique will not work for everyone and people must be prepared to be patient as it can take some time to find an alignment that is right for you.

However if you spend regular sessions with your teach and take the time to learn the correct postures and breathing techniques you could get a significant benefit. The main conditions that Alexander Technique can be used to alleviate are Arthritis, Asthma, Back Pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain Syndrome, Circulatory Problems, Constipation, Cramps, Digestive Disorders, Eyestrain, Face Pain, Hay Fever, Headache, Hernia, Injured Muscles, Insomnia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Knee Pain, Leg Cramps, Low Back Pain, Migraine, Motion Sickness, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscle Pain, Nasal Congestion, Neck Problems, Osteoporosis, Pain, Parkinson's Disease, Performance Anxiety, Photophobia, Pregnancy Problems, Premenstrual Syndrome, Prolapse of the Uterus, Repetitive Strain Injury, Respiratory Ailments, Sciatica, Scoliosis, Shoulder Pain, Sinus Problems, Slipped Disc, Spondylitis, Strain, Stress, Stuttering, TMJ Syndrome, Tennis Elbow, Tired Eyes, Whiplash.
