Coughing is something we all do on a regular basis in order to keep the airways clear. However when it is more than just a clearing of the throat it can cause discomfort. People can get different coughs, either acute or chronic. An acute cold normally lasts less than 2 weeks and is usually caused by something like a cold or flu. A chronic cold will last for longer and can be caused by conditions like bronchitis, asthma or other similar conditions.

There are a large number of herbal remedies that can be very beneficial in helping with the symptoms and they include Echinacea, eucalyptus, garlic and ginger among others. It you are on medication it is worth checking with your doctor to ensure the herb you take will not interferes with it. Other remedies that could be helpful are homeopathy and acupuncture.
