Description

Cirrhosis is basically caused by chronic liver disease. It is actually scarring on the live that disrupts the flow of blood and stops the liver from working effectively. This can cause serious health implications including malnutrition and immediate medical treatment is required. The most common cause of cirrhosis is alcohol abuse however it might also be caused by certain diseases. Some of the more common symptoms of Cirrhosis are:

  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Redness of the palms of the hands
  • Swelling of the belly caused by fluid retention
  • Swelling of the legs, feet, and back caused by fluid build up
  • Breast development in males and, possibly, shrinking testicles
  • Whole body itching
  • Mental confusion

 

 

Medical treatment is required and medication will be prescribed. In addition surgery may be required and even full liver transplants. It is also a good idea to visit a nutritional therapist. This is largely down to the fact that malnutrition can be a problem so it is vital to assess your diet to ensure you are taking on enough nutrients.

 

Again as with most conditions you could consider herbal and homeopathic remedies to help strengthen the body. If the condition is caused by alcohol abuse it is important to get help with the condition so you could consider psychotherapy. In addition acupuncture has been show to be effective in the treatment of addictions.
