High blood pressure also called hypertension is a serious condition that affects a proportion of the western world. It a particularly dangerous as it increases the risk of both heart disease and stroke. It is usually something that gets worse with age and affects more men than women however women may have raised blood pressure during pregnancy. Most people are unaware they have high blood pressure as it usually has no symptoms so it is important to visit a doctor to get your blood pressure checked regularly.

 

There are a number of things you can do to reduce your blood pressure including dietary changes, regular exercise, lower salt intake and reducing alcohol consumption. There are also some medications you can get to lower your blood pressure in severe cases.

 

There are a number of alternative therapies that can be used to treat hypertension including herbal remedies. As high blood pressure can be caused by stress there are a number of treatments that can help with reducing stress levels like acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, physical therapy and mind/body therapies.
