Condition Details for Alcoholism
Description

Alcoholism is the term used to describe the addiction to alcohol. This is when a person is compelled to drink alcohol often to make them feel like a human being again. Many alcoholics will continue to drink regardless of the damage it does to their emotional, mental and physical health. The reasons for drinking will vary from person to person as will the degree of the addiction.

It is important to say that no one will be able to give up alcohol unless they want to, so there is no use in forcing treatment on someone. There are various different options out there if someone does want to give up drinking including group therapy at the AA. People could also consider medicines both allopathic and herbal to reduce the desires for alcohol. Other therapies that have been shown to be very beneficial are homeopathy, acupuncture and psychotherapy including cogitative behavioural therapy.
